More than 900 supporters of Swedish Covenant Hospital gathered at the elegant Fairmont Chicago on  October 13 for the hospital's 52nd Annual Benefit Gala.
The event, emceed by television personality Anna Davlantes, grossed more than $650,000 in funds to benefit the many programs and services performed at the hospital in creating a healing environment for all patients and visitors. The hospital is Chicago's only member of the Planetree Alliance of healthcare providers, an organization dedicated to treating patients as individuals—body, mind and spirit. The funds raised will bring important initiatives directly to the patients served—including healing gardens, music at the bedside and a homelike décor, to name just a few.

The presentation of the sixth annual Spirit of Compassion Awards was a highlight of the evening, with Donna LaPietra and Bill Kurtis accepting an award for their dedication to Chicago's environment and numerous other causes. Both were recently honored with the establishment of the Donna La Pietra and Bill Kurtis Healing Garden Society at Swedish Covenant Hospital, an organization dedicated to bringing the healing of gardens and green spaces to the hospital's urban campus. Also receiving a Spirit of Compassion Award was Rev. Glenn Palmberg, lifelong friend of the hospital and Evangelical Covenant Church president. In addition, a special announcement was made during the award presentation that a combined gift of $15,000 has been pledged by the hospital, the Covenant Ministries of Benevolence and the Paul Carlson Partnership for a new girls' dormitory in at Karawa in Congo.

Swedish Covenant Hospital is a comprehensive healthcare facility providing health and wellness services to the communities of Chicago's north side. As one of the few independent, nonprofit hospitals in the area, Swedish Covenant Hospital remains focused on its mission of compassionate care.
