The Solving Kids’ Cancer second annual Spring Celebration Event was held on Thursday, May 12, 2011 in the ballroom at 583 Park Avenue, New York City with a total of $400,000 raised for the charity.
Solving Kids’ Cancer founders John London and Scott Kennedy along with Donna Karan hosted the benefit. Co-hosts Debra Ashkenazy, Gabby Karan DeFelice, Lyss Stern, Yvonne Force Villareal and Bonnie Young along with committee members Alina Cho, Carolina Herrera, Nanette Lepore, Alexandra Lind Rose & Amy Sacco were joined by guests Chelsea Clinton, Donna D’Cruz, John Demsey, Veronique Gabai-Pinsky and Tom Silverman.
Big Apple Circus Founders Paul Binder and Michael Christensen were honored for their Clown Care Unit which brings the joy of the circus to the bedside of children in treatment for serious diseases, like cancer, in 16 pediatric facilities across the United States. Guests were then treated to a very moving & powerful performance of “Seasons of Love “& “Whatever “by the award winning Young People’s Chorus of New York City, whose members are children ages 7-14.
After delivering a heartfelt speech about the importance of supporting SKC and giving back, host Donna Karan introduced actor, author and women's health advocate Karen Duffy, philanthropist & nightclub impresario Amy Sacco and comedian, actor Seth Herzog, of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon who served as co-auctioneers for the live auction which featured the opportunity to sponsor a clinical trial.
The celebration event featured a silent auction which included a day at the circus & tour after the show from Big Apple Circus, the chance to have your child star in Bonnie Young’s Spring 2012 photo shoot as well as a Superbowl Football signed by Emmitt Smith.
The evening’s co- sponsors included Credit Suisse & Paul Hastings.
