Nearly 400 of SFMOMA’s donors and patrons attended the museum’s annual Directors' Circle Dinner on September 15, 2010, a special evening to celebrate not only the closing of "Calder to Warhol: Introducing the Fisher Collection,” but also the future of SFMOMA and its partnership with the Fisher family.

Organized by co-chairs Carolyn Butcher, Gretchen Leach and Diana Nelson, the event began with cocktails in the rooftop garden and gallery viewing of the exhibition, followed by a gala dinner in the atrium (created by McCall’s and Blueprint) and late-night dancing to the big-band stylings of The Swing Kings. Many artists featured in the Fisher collection show were seen mingling among the crowd, including Chuck Close, Richard Serra, John Baldessari, Nathan Olivera, and Joel Sharpiro. Principals Craig Dykers and Kjetil Thorsen from Snohetta, the architecture firm recently selected to lead SFMOMA’s building expansion, were also special guests and added to the festivities.

Earlier this year, SFMOMA announced an unprecedented partnership with Doris and the late Donald Fisher, founders of the Gap, to provide a home at the museum for their outstanding collection of more than 1,100 works by 185 artists created from 1928 to the present. The collection features work by American and European masters from movements including Pop art, figurative Art, Minimalism, abstraction, conceptualism, Photorealism, and Color-field painting. The first public presentation of the celebrated Fisher Collection, one of the world’s foremost private collections of contemporary art, was presented by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) from June 25 through September 19, 2010.
