On Monday, September 26, 2011 a glamorous and fashionable New York crowd came out
for cocktails at the San Remo Apartment Building on Central Park West where
Rita Hayworth once lived with her daughter Princess Yasmin Aga Khan. Van Cleef
& Arpel’s Nicolas Luchsinger and the Princess hosted a kick off for the 2011
Rita Hayworth Gala being held on October 25th in New York City. Since the
inaugural Rita Hayworth Gala in New York nearly three decades ago, the events
have raised more than $53 million to support Alzheimer’s Association’s
critical care and research programs. Princess Yasmin Aga Khan established the
Gala as a tribute to her mother, Rita Hayworth, who lived with Alzheimer’s
disease for many years before her death in 1987.
In attendance was this year’s Gala honoree and passionate philanthropist,
Somers Farkas, who will be receiving the Rita Hayworth Award. The award
recipient chosen each year by Princess Yasmin Aga Khan is given to an
individual who exemplifies the spirit and grace of its namesake. The award was
first given to Catherine Deneuve and subsequent recipients have included
Eunice Shriver, Nancy Reagan, Lily Safra and Maria Shriver.
Gala Chairs Anne Hearst McInerney and Jay McInerney attended the party as well
