On Wednesday, May 11, 2011 New York City Ballet held its annual Spring Gala at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. Daniel and Estrellita Brodsky, Russ and Judy Carson, Meyer and Barbara Feldberg, and William and Clemence von Mueffling were the event chairmen.
One of the most anticipated social events of the season, the evening included an elegant cocktail reception on the promenade of the theater followed by a special one-time-only gala performance. This year’s performance featured the world premiere of a new production of The Seven Deadly Sins choreographed by Lynne Taylor-Corbett and starring Broadway legend Patti LuPone in her NYCB debut. A sung ballet in seven scenes, The Seven Deadly Sins was first choreographed by George Balanchine in 1933 and tells the story of a character named Anna, who is portrayed by both a singer and a dancer. This new production of the work features choreography by Taylor-Corbett, scenic designs by Beowulf Boritt, lighting by Jason Kantrowitz and costumes by Judanna Lynn. Also on the program was George Balanchine’s Vienna Waltzes. Following the performance, guests attended an elegant black-tie Supper Ball on the Promenade of the David H. Koch Theater.
Guest included: Sarah Jessica Parker, Liza Minnelli, Cheyenne Jackson, Lesley Stahl, Victor Garber, Mandy Patinkin, Arden Wohl, Maria-Cristina Anzola, Rob Ashford, Gillian Attfield, Patrick Cassidy, Claudia Cisneros, Kristin Kennedy Clark, Jonathan Freeman, Larry Fuller, Nina Griscom, Darren Henault and Michael Bassett, Claire van Kampen, Arthur Laurents, Alexandra Lebenthal, Carol Mack, Charlotte Moss, Chazz Palminiteri, Veronique and Robert Pittman, Allison Sarofim, Bartlett Scher, Sherie Rene Scott, Marc Shaiman, Barbara Slifka, Shaun Taylor-Corbett, Ben Vereen, Scott Wittman, and David Yazbek.
