Approximately 1,300 leaders, staff, and friends of The Mount Sinai Medical Center gathered on Thursday, May 5, 2011, under an enormous tent at the Central Park Conservatory Garden to celebrate a year of significant discoveries and accomplishments for Mount Sinai, at the 26th Crystal Party. The annual spring event, hosted by Mount Sinai Trustee Jeff T. Blau and his wife Lisa, raised more than $3 million that will be used to support medical research initiatives at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
Guests enjoyed cocktails, a three-course meal, and live music as they danced and mingled. The event was held within view of Mount Sinai’s new 12- story Center for Science and Medicine. The building is scheduled for completion in 2012.
“We are witnessing an era of tremendous growth for Mount Sinai, and your support makes it all possible,” said Peter W. May, Chairman, Mount Sinai Boards of Trustees. “Over the past year we have recruited exceptional talent in science and medicine, and we have continued to grow the skyline in this part of town. With six full floors of laboratories and two floors of outpatient clinical space, the Center for Science and Medicine embodies Mount Sinai’s commitment to translating therapies between bench and bedside.”
He added, “I am proud to count myself among this community of willing and determined leaders who transformed this vision into a reality for Mount Sinai.”
Kenneth L. Davis, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Mount Sinai Medical Center, said there was “much to celebrate” this year on a number of fronts. “Our national rankings are better than ever, our grant portfolio is at an all-time high, and our bond rating is as good as it has ever been. But for me, the last 12 months are most remarkable for the exponential growth we have seen in our cancer programs. ” He concluded, “Generations of patients, physicians, and scientists have recognized Mount Sinai’s expertise in the most complex—and the most common—conditions of the heart and brain. The same can now be said for all cancers. For that and more, I thank you all for your support and for being here tonight.”
