On February 16, 2011, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) trustees and patrons were given the first look at 50 stunning paintings on loan from the National Gallery of Art (NGA), Washington. A real coup for Houston, MFAH is the sole venue to receive these major works while the NGA renovates its 19th-century exhibition galleries. The exhibition, Impressionist and Post-Impressionist Masterpieces from the National Gallery of Art, includes several paintings that have never left the NGA. Artists featured in the exhibition, include the ones (i.e. Van Gogh, Manet, Monet, Cezanne and Degas) that art history books are made of. The exhibition will be on view through May 23rd.
The evening began with a cocktail hour and an exhibition viewing followed by a seated dinner catered by City Kitchen. The flowers were loosely inspired by the colors in Frédéric Bazille’s Young Women With Peonies.
Nearly 100 guests attended including: NGA Associate Curator Kimberly A. Jones; MFAH Curators Helga Kessler Aurisch and Pete Bowrons; Cornelia and Meredith Long; Jeanie Kilroy; Isabel Wilson; Charlene and Philip Carroll; Ann Bookout; Nancy and Rich Kinder; Frances Marzio; Clare Attwell Glassell; Anne and Charles Duncan; Margaret Alkek Williams and Jim Daniel; Isla and Tommy Reckling; Kirby and Scott McCool; Michelle and Frank Hevrdejs; Tom Brown (Hamill Foundation); Charlie and Carol Read (Hamill Foundation); Susan and Lenoir Josey; Romelia Favrot and Harris Greenwood; Cyvia and Melvyn Wolff; Lynn and Peter Coneway.
