On September 10, 2010, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston held a reception and dinner celebrating the opening of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s German Impressionist Landscape Painting: Liebermann—Corinth—Slevogt .
In celebration of the exhibit’s grand opening, 60 guests attended a reception and seated dinner including Meredith and Cornelia Long; Peter and Frances Marzio; Helga Aurisch; Dena Woodall; Susan and Lenoir Josey; Lina Corinth; Götz Czymmek (Cologne curator);Marjorie Horning. Prior to the reception and dinner, a lecture was given by Dr. Helga Kessler Aurisch, Curator of European Art, MFAH.
German Impressionist Landscape Painting features more than 90 paintings by the remarkable artists Max Liebermann, Lovis Corinth, and Max Slevogt. Liebermann, Corinth, and Slevogt were celebrated as the "triumvirate of German Impressionism." Although none of the three was exclusively a landscape artist, their landscapes present an opportunity to trace the development of a particular kind of German Impressionism through works of the highest quality. Organized by the MFAH and the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud in Cologne, Germany, German Impressionist Landscape Painting is the first major exhibition in the United States devoted to this subject in 30 years. The exhibit will be on display through December 5, 2010.
