On Tuesday, June 28, 2011 Chicago Opera Theater (COT) presented their third annual Opera Cruise: “High Cs on the High Seas.”
With music, dancing, as well as COT’s signature cocktail, the “Opera-tini,” over 100 guests set sail on Lake Michigan to enjoy an evening full of charm, excitement, and perfect weather aboard Kanan Cruises on Navy Pier.
The opera program featured former COT Young Artist and award-winning mezzo soprano, Katherine Calcamuggio, as well as the highly regarded and critically acclaimed tenor, Scott Ramsey. Their enchanting performance concluded with the delightful “If I Loved You” from Rogers’ Carousel. The performance was then followed by dancing amid the marvelous Chicago Skyline.
COT also launched a new raffle initiative titled “Pick-Your-Prize” in which the guests had the option of distributing their raffle tickets among six packages to increase their odds on the prizes they wanted. Two notable packages were “Stay”, which included a two night stay at the Hotel Felix and a dinner for two at the Palm Restaurant, and “Explore”, which included a tour of the Lynfred Winery locations and a family membership to an introductory French class at the Alliance Francaise.
The opera cruise was a fundraiser celebrating the end of Chicago Opera Theater’s 2011 Spring Festival Season. Over $8,500 was raised to support Chicago Opera Theater’s general operating budget.
