The Houston Astros
Wives 19th Annual Black Ties & Baseball
Caps Gala was held on Thursday, July 31, on the
field at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. Led
by co-chairs Marcia Geary and Heather
Sampson, the event included a cocktail reception, silent
auction, dinner and a live auction.
The annual fundraiser benefits the Houston Area Women's
Center. Since the first Gala in the early 1990s, Astros
Wives have raised more than $3 million for the Center which
provides a safe environment for victims of domestic and sexual
violence in Houston. This year 550 guests helped raised $500,000
for the Center.
Honorary chairmen for the evening were Drayton and Elizabeth
McLane. Hall of Fame broadcaster Milo Hamilton served
as emcee and Vikki Vines was the auctioneer. The
2008 fundraiser was generously underwritten by Continental Airlines,
Gregg Perkin/Engineering Partners, Int'l., Beverly Wren,
Greg Miller/Pipeline Inspections, Dee Dee and Wallis Marsh, Kellie
and John Weinzierl, Steve and Sheila Miller Foundation and Mrs.
Sybil Roos.
