Christina and Cary Potter hosted a cocktail reception for AmeriCares on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the home of Alex Lari in Manhattan.  The reception featured a presentation by AmeriCares president and CEO Curtis R. Welling, who has directed the organization’s response to dozens of emergencies including the cholera outbreak in Haiti, devastating flooding in Pakistan, the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile, the Gulf Coast oil spill, hurricane Katrina and the Southeast Asia tsunami. Over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, Welling had the pleasure of announcing that AmeriCares had reached a significant milestone: since it’s founding in 1982, AmeriCares has delivered and distributed more than $10 billion in medical assistance to 147 countries, including the United States.

Guests and supporters including Patrick Durkin, Bill and Cory Laverack, Elizabeth and Jay Chandler, Joe Merrill, Darryl Tookes, Wendy Reyes, Jack Radgowski, Tim O’Hara, Curt and Angel Schade, Oscar Junquera, Mike and Sandy McManus, Steve Weisman, Sophie Stenbeck, Barbara de Portago, Michele Gerber Klein, Tom Brown, Daryn Mayer, Elizabeth Kabler, John Bradley, Shawn Emamjomeh,  Dr. Hemali Ajmera, Jim Freeman, Sonomi Yamada, Joyce May, Claire Potter, Jennifer Potter, John Wessels, Linette and Matt Semino, Marianna Kulukundis,  Emily Henry, Samir Tahan, Lady Liliana Cavendish, Cindy Guyer, Lisa Jackson, Brad Davis, Katie Welling and Dr. Frank Bia were among those who joined the Potters in raising awareness for this organization’s important work.

AmeriCares vision is to help many more people live longer, healthier lives through its global health and disaster relief programs. The organization’s medical gift-in-kind model enables pharmaceutical and medical supply manufacturers to donate essential products that are delivered and distributed to a network of more than 2,500 hospitals, clinics and community health organizations, improving access to medicines for millions of people around the world.
