The Women’s Division of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine hosted their flagship fundraiser, The Spirit of Achievement Awards Luncheon, sponsored by Ahava, on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at The Plaza Hotel. Natalie Morales, Barbara Corcoran, Jill Martin, Iris Apfel and Dr. Joseph A. Sparano were honored at the reception, which was emceed by MSNBC’s Willie Geist for the third consecutive year. The luncheon was chaired by Jackie Harris Hochberg, Andrea Stark and Renée Steinberg, and funds raised from the event will benefit the National Women’s Division’s $3 million initiative to support vital basic and translational research studies in Women’s Health and Cancers.
The afternoon included a poignant video presentation entitled A Cancer Survivor Story, which followed one woman’s brave experience through cancer with Dr. Joseph A. Sparano. Guests including Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb made up the captive audience. Present also was Dr. Susan Horwitz whose research helped lead to the development of Taxol, a widely used cancer drug treatment. The luncheon ended with a grand raffle, which included prizes from Judith Ripka, Stark Carpet and Adrien Arpel.
