On Thursday, November 10, 2011, the American Museum of Natural History held the 2011 Museum Gala, its largest annual benefit. More than 600 guests attended this year’s dazzling ball. Following cocktails in the Roosevelt Rotunda, guests enjoyed a gourmet dinner and a performance by Coldplay in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life.
The event featured host Brian Williams and an auction of extraordinary prizes, overseen by auctioneer Jamie Niven of Sotheby’s. This year the winnings included an array of priceless items including:
- Tickets to a taping of “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” including a meet-and-greet with the funnyman himself;
- Breakfast at the Museum and front-row seats to New York’s one and only Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade;
- Tickets to legendary Studio 8H for a live recording of “Saturday Night Live,” followed by dinner with the cast and crew at the afterparty;
- A children’s expedition through the Museum, including a visit with Museum scientists and viewing rarely-seen Museum treasures behind-the-scenes;
- An exquisite pendant from Graff Diamonds, composed of a multi-shaped diamond double-flower pendant with round emerald centers;
- Tickets to the opening night of “La Fille du Régiment” at the Metropolitan Opera—including dinner for four at The Grand Tier at Lincoln Center before the opera and an exclusive afterparty with the cast, hosted by Museum Trustee Ann Ziff;
- Exclusive naming opportunity for the newly-restored black bear diorama in the Hall of North American Mammals.
Jodie and John Eastman, Kathy and Tom Freston, and Alice and Lorne Michaels were the Gala Chairs. Guests who joined Museum President Ellen V. Futter and the Gala Chairs were: the Museum’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees Lewis W.
