The American Federation of Arts (AFA) marked its 100th year as a pioneering organization dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and appreciation of art in this country with a black-tie gala celebration on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at the Metropolitan Club in New York City.

During the evening, there was a viewing of a short commemorative video featuring artist Lorna Simpson, Metropolitan Museum of Art Director Thomas P. Campbell, and Brooklyn Museum Director Arnold L. Lehman, among others; a raffle drawing of a print by Maira Kalman and a drawing by Wolfgang Laib; and dancing and cocktails. The dinner was catered by the Metropolitan Club.

Approximately 260 guests, including artists Will Cotton, Eliott Erwitt, Wolfgang Laib, and Donald Sultan, attended, along with Gala Co-Chairs Clare E. McKeon, Damaris D.W. Ford, Scott A. Dahnke, and Stephanie R. La Nasa; Honorary Chairs Serena Rattazzi and Stephanie French; museum directors William M. Griswold (The Morgan Library and Museum), Julián Zugazagoitia (The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art), and Brian J. Ferriso (Portland Art Museum); Olivia Chantecaille, Joan K. Davidson, Charles and Valerie Diker, Lydia Fenet, Fernanda Kellogg and Kirk Henckels, and Armand Bartos; and AFA Director George G. King, among many others.

The AFA is a nonprofit institution that organizes art exhibitions for presentation in museums around the world, publishes exhibition catalogues, and develops various educational programs. The AFA’s mission is to enrich the public’s experience of art and understanding of culture by organizing and traveling a diverse offering of exhibitions embracing all aspects of art history.
