Situated on a spectacular 50-acre site along the shores of Kiawah Island, SC, The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort is a true haven for the luxury traveler. Built to resemble a grand antebellum mansion, the hotel exceeds expectations with its imposing public spaces, grand staircases, fine antiques and artwork, and stunning Atlantic Ocean views. The 255 stylish rooms and suites feature custom-made beds, lavish bathrooms and oceanview balconies, while the majestic, 3,100-square-foot Presidential Suite has a vaulted beam ceiling and a grand oceanfront balcony. The Sanctuary's two excellent restaurants give new meaning to the concept of Southern hospitality. At the formal Ocean Room, guests enjoy the imaginative New American cuisine of chef Chris Brandt. The more casual Jasmine Porch offers traditional Lowcountry favorites. For the ultimate in pampering, the garden-themed spa's treatments include a Mint Julep Facial and a Lowcountry Verbena Body Polish. Also available: a fitness center, indoor pool, sauna and Jacuzzi.

The resort boasts five championship courses designed by the world's leading golf course architects: The Ocean Course by Pete Dye; Osprey Point by Tom Fazio; Turtle Point by Jack Nicklaus; Cougar Point by Gary Player; and Oak Point by Clyde Johnston. In Spring 2006 the Ocean Course will host the Senior PGA Championship, and the resort is building a 24,000-square-foot clubhouse to open in time for the event. But Kiawah is not just for golfers. The Sanctuary is ranked the number-one tennis resort in the country, thanks to two state-of-the-art tennis complexes (with 28 courts) and outstanding instructional programs. The resort also has ten miles of private beaches. For more diversion, the historic city of Charleston is a half-hour drive. Visitors can appreciate its landmarks and famous hidden gardens during a walking tour with Ruth Miller of Charleston Strolls (www.charlestonstrolls.com). And for art aficionados, The Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association's (CFADA) Eighth Fine Art Annual takes place November 3 – 5 (www.cfada.com).
