Background: An attorney by profession, Lewis was the first Filipina to pass New York State bar. She served as an informal adviser to her late husband, Reginald F. Lewis, founder and first CEO of TLC Beatrice, and assumed the leadership of the company in 1994, a year after his death. In 1997 she began to liquidate the company and in 2000, the last unit of the company was sold. A former general attorney in the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, Lewis is the author of How to Get a Green Card, now on its 10th edition. She was the national chair of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations, an advocacy group for Philippine-Americans.
