Background:
In producing a series of Academy Award and Golden Globe winning films over the past ten years, he has distinguished himself in recognizing the opportunities to better integrate the publishing and film industries in creating critically acclaimed commercial entertainment. He has presided over two successful independent film companies during this time: Sharp Independent at HarperCollins and Hart Sharp Entertainment.
His credits to date include the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award winning film Boys Don't Cry and You Can Count On Me, which was nominated for two Academy Awards and two Golden Globes and won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival. He also produced the Golden Globe nominated movies Nicholas Nickleby and Proof as well as other renowned adaptations including A Home At The End Of The World, The Night Listener and Evening.
As part of Sharp Independent's deal with HarperCollins, Sharp is currently producing Cocoa Beach, a television series adapted by Andre and Maria Jacquemetton [Mad Men] from NBC news reporter Jay Barbree's behind the scenes memoir about the early days of the US space program in Cape Canaveral, Florida; The Leisure Seeker, a feature film adapted by Swedish filmmaker, Jens Jonsson [The King of Ping Pong - 2008 Sundance Grand Jury winning debut] from Michael Zadoorian's novel and Northline, a feature film adapted by 2009 Academy Award nominee Courtney Hunt [Frozen River] and being produced with Curtis Hanson from Willy Vlautin's novel.
