Biography

David Sloan is an executive producer at ABC News.

Education:
BA, Rutgers University, 1976

Background:
David Sloan is the executive producer of ABC News’ acclaimed primetime newsmagazines “20/20” and “Primetime,” overseeing the production and daily operation of both shows. He is also the creator and executive producer of the innovative new series “i-CAUGHT,” as well as executive producer of all Barbara Walters’ news specials and additional primetime news specials throughout the year.

Mr. Sloan’s career at ABC News has spanned more than 20 years, during which time he has won numerous awards, including a Peabody and an Emmy. Prior to being named executive producer of “20/20,” in 1998 he was named senior producer, as the show went to a multi-night format. The following year he was asked by Senior Executive Producer Victor Neufeld to help develop the new “20/20 Downtown,” targeted at a younger audience.

Mr. Sloan began his ABC News career as a researcher for “Good Morning America” in 1980. He quickly moved up the ranks, serving as the consumer producer for John Stossel from 1982-86. From 1986-89 he oversaw special overseas projects for the morning show.

He joined “20/20” in 1989 as a producer, working on a wide variety of stories with all of the correspondents. During this time his work was honored with numerous awards, including an Emmy and a GLAAD Award for the 1992 groundbreaking John Stossel report, “Gays in the Military”; a Peabody for “Journey of Christopher Reeve” with Barbara Walters in 1995; and a 1994 GLAAD Award for “Gay Teen Suicide,” also with Stossel.

He was once again promoted in 1995, when he was named senior producer of the popular John Stossel specials. The one-hour shows focused on such topics as greed, infidelity and happiness.

Immediately prior to joining ABC News, Mr. Sloan was a general assignment reporter at the Newark Star-Ledger, during which time he also taught English and writing at his alma mater, Rutgers University.
