Biography
Robert Appel is the President of Appel Associates.

Married to Helen Appel

Background:
After three years with Arthur Anderson & Co. as a CPA, he joined Wertheim & Company as a Research Analyst. In 1970, he moved to Neuberger Berman, a New York investment and securities brokerage firm, as Investment Manager, then Executive Partner. He was Managing Director of the firm when it was acquired by Lehman Brothers in 2003. He then founded Appel Associates, a family investment firm, and serves as its President.

Major Donation:
In 2002, Appel and his wife donated $15 million to Cornell University to support its Residential Initiative. They are co-founders of the Robinson-Appel Humanitarian Awards, which honor students who demonstrate humanitarian values and service. They endowed the Robert J. Appel Professorship in Molecular and Cell Biology and the Robert J. Appel Cornell Tradition Fellowship. They endowed the Robert and Helen Appel Fellowships for Humanists and Social Scientists to recognize faculty members in these fields who demonstrate excellence in teaching and show great promise as scholars.
